William Ruto is a Kenyan politician who currently serves as the Deputy President of Kenya, a position he has held since 2013. He is also a member of the Kalenjin ethnic group.
William Ruto was born on December 21, 1966, in Eldoret, Kenya. He attended Kapsabet Boys High School and later the University of Nairobi, where he studied zoology and botany.
Ruto entered politics in the early 1990s as a member of the Kenya Africa National Union (KANU) party, which was then the ruling party in Kenya. He later joined the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) party, which he represented in the National Assembly from 2002 to 2013.
In 2007, Ruto was elected as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture in the coalition government led by President Mwai Kibaki. He later joined the Jubilee Party of Kenya in 2013 and was elected as the Deputy President of Kenya in the same year.
Ruto has been a key figure in Kenyan politics and has been involved in several controversies. He has been indicted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity for his alleged role in the 2007-2008 post-election violence in Kenya. He has denied the charges and his trial is ongoing.
